By May 8, 2025No Comments

As we look ahead to 2026, it’s important to stay informed about the changes in health savings accounts (HSAs) and high deductible health plans (HDHPs). Each year, the IRS adjusts these limits to account for inflation, and understanding these changes can help you make informed decisions about your healthcare savings and spending.

2026 HSA Contribution Limits

For 2026, the IRS has increased the HSA contribution limits. Individuals with self-only coverage can now contribute up to $4,400, which is a $100 increase from 2025. For those with family coverage, the contribution limit has risen by $200, bringing it to $8,750. It’s important to note that the catch-up contribution limit for individuals aged 55 or older remains unchanged at $1,000.

HDHP Minimum Deductible and Maximum Out-of-Pocket Limits

The minimum deductible for HDHPs has also seen adjustments. For self-only coverage, the deductible has increased by $50, setting the new limit at $1,700. For family coverage, the deductible has risen by $100, now totaling $3,400.

In terms of maximum out-of-pocket expenses, which include deductibles, copayments, and other amounts (but not premiums), there are also increases. For self-only coverage, the limit has gone up by $200, reaching $8,500. For family coverage, the increase is $400, setting the new limit at $17,000.

Planning for the Future

These changes highlight the importance of planning ahead when it comes to managing your healthcare expenses. By understanding the new limits, you can better strategize your contributions and spending to maximize the benefits of your HSA and HDHP.
